Cardiovascular Diseases

The leading major cause of death worldwide and significantly oncurring health issue in the 21 century have been cardiovascular diseases (CVD). This may include leukemia, stroke, heart failure, coronary artery disease, hypertension, etc. CVD often result because of a major deprivation or cut from the oxygen supply to heart cells known as cardiomyocytes. This narrows the blood vessel supply to the heart  and severely damages the cardiomyocytes in one’s body. This is why many victims of heart attacks end up with a major lack in energy and may seem out of breath frequently showing signs of fatigue. However, the muscular tissue of the heart called myocardium has the ability to retain its regenerative capacity giving stem cell therapy the opportunity to allow the heart to heal itself as it contains cardiac stem cells. The first step is to remove bone marrow from the patient’s hip, extracting stem cells, allowing for a followed injection into the heart’s damaged area. The stem cells embed themselves and produce proteins for growth signaling of new heart muscle and blood vessels finally resulting in a regenerating heart tissue. Patients undergoing this route of treatment have been showing improvements in only up to 6 months following the procedure. This surgery has been gaining wide appreciation for such success.
